The Steel Club of Victoria
Was founded in 1969 by a local group of “steel guys” who met up socially to network and support each other – over time has evolved into the current form as a networking group for the manufacturing sector; our honorary members typically come from many facets of the steel industry – from structural steel to general fabrication & machining, including various supporting industries & material suppliers.
HISTORY
During the mid-1960’s, a number of people connected with the Steel Industry in Victoria believed that an association could be formed to bring together all sectors of the industry in a social atmosphere.
The idea of a Club persisted and was seriously mooted at an informal luncheon on Tuesday 7th January 1969, at the Footscray R.S.L. Club, attended by a number of gentlemen connected with the steel industry. It was then and there decided to form a Club and the first meeting was held on Wednesday evening, 12th February, 1969 at the Queensberry Hotel, in order to form a Committee and to discuss a Constitution, Rules, Aims and Objects.
Over the preceding years the membership has grown to the current number of members being 57. This name was changed in the late 1970’s to “The Steel Club of Victoria.”
The club evolved into an organization which holds events to raise money for non-mainstream charities whilst not forgetting its roots of the members getting together regularly to socialize and network.

Social
To organize Social functions, which may, at the discretion of the Committee be subsidized by the Club — these functions, although primarily for the members may also incorporate selected visitors at certain times
Community
To expend any surplus funds for the good of Club members generally, or for selected non- mainstream Charities decided by the General Committee and its members.
Mateship
To create a fellowship among selected individuals connected with and allied to the steel industry
